nuclear power

Nuclear power plants should not be banned because
their pros far out way their cons. Nuclear Power Plants produce over 19% of the united states total energy. Without nuclear power the united states would struggle to produce enough power to allow the common citizen to enjoy its amenities.

Nuclear power is also a green alternative to coal which is our leading source of energy production. The fact that nuclear energy is clean is vitally important because we need this world to last because it is the only one we have right now. If we destroy it we will have nowhere to live. So green energy is good energy. This next snip it is from the Washington-times "From an environmental perspective, nuclear energy can’t be beaten. No belching smokestacks or polluting gases. It releases nothing into the atmosphere - no carbon dioxide, no sulfur, no mercury." The fact that the US is all about getting green and saving the environment nuclear power is the clear cut best choice with no greenhouse gas emissions. nuclear power yields very little waste as well "if you used nuclear power for your entire lifetime needs, the resulting waste would only be enough fill a Coke can" Washington times. that is so little and they have ways of disposing it safely.other reasons nuclear power should become are staple source of energy is that "nuclear power steers clear of fossil fuels, releases less radioactivity than coal-fired power plants and is unaffected by the ups and downs of oil and gas prices"(howstuffworks.com) it is cleaner and gets the US its own source of power instead of relying on foreign oil.

Some might say that the plants will meltdown like Chernobyl but that was caused by poor protocol that has been changed. The chances of meltdown are very slim. In the US alone there are more than 100 plants that have been running for more than 50 years without any disasters. the fact that there are "100+ plants that have lasted over 50 years" means that on we build today with our current technology could last much longer. nuclear energy is green and sustainable and it should not be banned.  in Chernobyl they purposefully turned off the safety systems to test in case of emergency and the reactor blew up igniting graphite which burned for 9 days. now safety systems would never be turned off.

Hopefully I have convinced you that nuclear energy is a good thing while it is green and safe and produces 19% of the US energy already.

  1. It was said 1974 there was a 1 in 10,000 chance of a nuclear meltdown but it has happened 3 times since then

  4. I agree with your statement about the updated safety protocol. Nuclear plants are rigorously investigated for any safety hazards, especially in the past several years.

  8. You say that "they have ways of disposing it safely" but you don't identify who "they" are and you don't describe the safe ways they impliment to dispose of the waste you refer to. If you address this, I think your point would be a lot stronger.

  10. I liked the incorporation of the pie chart. It made your argument more convincing than it already was.
